Private Equity as a Catalyst for Social Change

Private equity today involves far more than just funding; it has evolved into a powerful platform for fostering meaningful social change while amplifying business growth. By leveraging greater ecosystems and relationships, and by connecting with the right partners and platforms, Private Equity can support innovation that enables businesses to develop successful, scalable solutions for real-world challenges.. A promising example of this impact is in the healthcare sector, where technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping how care is accessed and delivered.

Supporting Scalable Innovation at Envisionit Deep AI

As an example, Envisionit Deep AI is leading the way in this space with a holistic approach to healthcare diagnostics. The company addresses two major challenges in the field: real-world AI validation and reducing misdiagnoses through explainable, trustworthy technology. Their RATify tool interprets X-rays in real time - a potential game-changer for public hospitals where radiologist shortages lead to delays in diagnosis and treatment. RMB Ventures invested in Envisionit via NewGX Capital and, with support from one of our group’s foundations, is backing a pilot programme at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg. The pilot will assess whether the tool can help triage patients more efficiently in one of the busiest emergency departments in the country. If successful, the model could be scaled across government hospitals nationwide, improving outcomes and reducing pressure on the public healthcare system.

Making Healthcare More Accessible with First Care Solutions

Another example is First Care Solutions, a leading provider of medical administration and support services. Their CareFirst Virtual Healthcare platform enables AI-powered GP consultations, prescription updates, and health checks - all accessible via a smartphone. This simple but powerful solution uses everyday technology to make basic healthcare more accessible and affordable. RMB Ventures’ investment has supported the company’s growth and in so doing also contributed to broader healthcare goals of reducing systemic pressure, enabling earlier intervention, and expanding access to flexible, patient-focused care.

As Lauren Pearce, Sustainable Value Creation Specialist at RMB Ventures notes, “We believe in backing businesses that are commercially successful and also capable of shifting the dial on real challenges. The AI-healthcare intersection is one where we see clear opportunities to create shared value – for patients, the public sector, and our investee companies.”

This work reflects a broader view of private equity: one that prioritises value creation through sustainable impact, where long-term growth is achieved by building solutions that benefit communities as much as bottom lines. As innovation accelerates, there’s a growing need for capital that’s committed, connected, and values-driven – and that’s a space RMB Ventures is proud to occupy.
